About
Background
Coralie J. Schmitt explores with intensity the contrasts of the world around her. Following an initial experience in fashion alongside the prestigious « The Wall Group » agency in Paris, she resumed her studies in 2018 and trained as an interior architect. In January 2020, she established her own studio in Lyon. It was in 2022 that she committed entirely to an artistic practice, forging a singular visual language through painting and photography.
Originally from Le Puy-en-Velay, Coralie carries within her the volcanic landscapes and raw light of the Haute-Loire. The radicality of her aesthetic choices enables her to express simultaneously violence and tenderness, tension and serenity. Several years ago, Chinese ink constituted a decisive turning point in her work, imposing the discipline of the pure line and the irreversible gesture, where each stroke laid upon paper becomes definitive.
Black and white then impose themselves as an evidence, an absolute necessity. Through this duality, Coralie shapes works in which contrast becomes narrative force, palpable tension, a revelation of emotions in their rawest form. From Chinese ink to acrylic, the guiding thread remains the same: the complete absence of repentance.
